When Covid 19 postponed volleyball season, sophomore Morgan Stephens turned to girls golf as a way to stay active and in shape. Never playing before Stephens stated that she was worried she wouldn’t be so good at it. “Golf is a very mental sport. It’s difficult to just ‘pick up,’” said Stephens, “and it’s not something you have to be good at to have fun.”
According to her coach, Derek Renz, Stephens has been doing, “unbelievably well for a new golfer!” Stephens recently medaled against East Peoria by shooting a 47 at Madison Golf Course. “She has been a leader and been a great teammate! She is very coachable and works well with all members of the team,” says Renz.
As many sports have been affected by the Covid19 virus, golf seems to be one that is quite unaffected. According to Stephens, the biggest, and almost only difference is the fact that the team has to wear masks while on a bus together.
