Limestone’s Key Club made and donated food for the Ronald McDonald House in Peoria.
They got groceries at Aldi, drove to the Ronald McDonald House kitchen, and made food there, then served it for the guests. Their menu included garlic bread, spaghetti, salad, meatball subs, and ice cream.
The Ronald McDonald House allows people who have family members in the hospital the opportunity to stay close to the hospital. “I think it will greatly help those families that are being served by the Ronald McDonald House,” said Key Club advisor Mrs. Lisa Bentley.
Because of this project, students have been able to get out into the community more and serve others. “We looked at several different places to volunteer, and this one had some availability this month, so we thought we’d take advantage of it,” said Bentley
When discussing the Ronald McDonald House, Bentley said, “It’s an important part of having a functioning society to have empathy for people that you know as well as people that you don’t know.”
Bentley is looking at doing more community service projects. “I’m just really excited that we’re starting these opportunities to do some bigger projects besides just the things around the building. And we have lots of other things kind of in the works as far as kind of bigger community service projects,” said Bentley.
