Limestone head volleyball coach Shelly Stoner was named the Tri-County Female Coach of the Year.
Stoner has coached volleyball for 20 years, 11 of those years she has been the varsity coach with a record of 302 wins and 94 losses. Stoner had also coached softball for 15 years and basketball for 6 years.
Coach Stoner said she was inspired to be a coach because she loves to play sports, and she wants to inspire young athletes.
Stoner shared some of her favorite memories as a coach. “Number one is the long-lasting relationships I have made, last season’s run to State, and when we took all the 2018 seniors out after they graduated from college,” said Stoner.
Coach Stoner’s advice for people who want to become a coach is, ” Coaching takes tough skin and a soft heart, and that you are only as good as the people you surround yourself with, so surround yourself with people who bring out the best in you.”
Stoner’s goals for the future are to build relationships, make memories, keep Limestone known as a strong volleyball program, and win a conference and go on a run to state is always a goal.
When not coaching, Stoner likes to play games with friends and spend time with her dog Tito.
