Video games are widely enjoyed by everyone, offering something for every type of player. From the meditative calm of “cozy” games to intense and immersive RPGs. Following a standout 2025 that saw the arrival of long-awaited games like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Hollow Knight: Silksong, momentum for 2026 is already building, promising another strong year for all audiences. Here are some upcoming games to look for in the next few months.
Resident Evil – Requiem
Resident Evil is an ongoing series with the ninth mainline game installment following Resident Evil Village, released in 2021. RER is scheduled to release on February 27th, 2026. Resident Evil is Capcom’s best-selling series, with the first game released in 1996; the series has been going on for 30 years. It defined the horror genre and brought back zombies to popular culture. This game follows a new protagonist, FBI agent Grace Ashcroft, who investigates a post-nuclear town with the aid of the protagonist of Resident Evil 4, Leon Kennedy. It will return the overarching narrative between the Raccoon City incident and the activities of the Umbrella Corp, seen in RE5. You, as the player, can switch between Grace and Leon, who will have different gameplay mechanics. Grace’s missions are shown in a survival horror style like in RE2 and RE7, as she tries to not be detected by the primary antagonist, Victor Gideon, while investigating a mysterious stream of incidents at the Wrenwood hotel. Leon’s missions are more combat-driven, like in his own game. This game will be available for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. This game is rated Mature. My friend said that she is super excited to see the new game and that it looks great!
Persona 4 Revival
The Persona series is a staple of the JRPG genre, consisting of five mainline entries. Unlike the Resident Evil games, each Persona game is a standalone story, meaning you can play any of the games without being too lost. Persona is a long story with its iconic day-by-day loops, where you balance a high school life hanging out with friends while also saving the world from shadows. Following the 2024 remake of Persona 3, which modernized the 2006 game with redefined mechanics and visuals, the original 2D game is now 3D. Persona 4 Golden was the only unmodernized title of the modern trilogy. This caused speculation for a possible remake of the game, until it was finally announced in June of 2025. While we are awaiting a firm date, hints from ATLUS suggest the game will be released in late 2026 or early 2027. Persona 4 is my personal favorite game out of the other three because of its cozy slice-of-life atmosphere. While the other entries are a bit more mature and handle darker themes, Persona 4 has a more relaxed energy. The story follows the Protagonist who moves from the city to a quiet small town, only to be forced to solve a supernatural murder mystery. I’m excited to see the remake come out, and it’s definitely a series I recommend checking out. These games are long, spanning from around 60 to 100 hours, so there is a lot of content to consume! This game is rated Mature. Also, with 2026 being Persona’s 30th anniversary, there are lots of announcements to be made this year, so stay on the lookout for more statements by ATLUS.
GTA VI
After two major delays, the most anticipated game is currently scheduled for release on November 19, 2026. While the wait has been long, the game looks incredible. GTA 6 will have two protagonists, Lucia and Jason. From what we’ve seen in the trailers, it seems they have a Bonnie and Clyde relationship. The amount of detail is staggering, with character movements and facial expressions looking more realistic than ever before. The map won’t be just the city; it will be marshlands. A lot of buildings will be enterable, and all the NPCs will react to the weather and all your actions in real time. GTA 6 has been delayed a lot, with its original announcement in 2023 being delayed 2 times. Rockstar Games has high standards, and there is a lot of pressure on them since GTA 5 is such an iconic game. But, they say it’s in the final polishing stage and want it to be bug-free and visually perfect. Currently, the November 2026 date remains the official target for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S players. This game is rated Mature. A friend of mine says that he is excited to see the new game since it takes place on a much larger map that’s similar to South Florida, specifically Miami and the Keys.
Marvels WOLVERINE
Following their success with Marvel’s Spider-Man series, Insomniac Games shifts gears from the neighborhood-friendly web-slinger to a much more savage protagonist, James “Logan” Howlett. Wolverine leans to a darker and more mature tone that fans have long requested. They revealed a gameplay trailer officially during September 2025, and it is now confirmed for a fall 2026 release. A bold move from Sony, placing the game’s release date just a month or two before GTA VI. This game is set in the same universe as the Spider-Man games and follows Logan around to locations like Madripoor, Canada, and Tokyo. The gameplay focuses on a fast, fluid, and ferocious combat system. This game is rated Mature. Wolverine will be available on the PS5 and is one of the most anticipated titles of the new year.
These are the few games that stood out to me, so stay on the lookout for more games and announcements this year!
