Julie Powers, business teacher, received a One Class at a Time thousand dollar grant.

Powers was surprised by a TV crew filming in her classroom in early November. “I am always looking for ways to get new technology in the hands of students,” Powers said in an interview with 25 WEEK. She said she would be spending all the money on gear for the classroom like cameras or possibly a new 3D printer.

The grant was awarded to Powers on behalf of the 25 WEEK news station and CEFCU, a local credit union. Once Class at a Time awards grants to local teachers who have been nominated by students, parents, colleagues, or members of the community.

Powers was curious about who may have nominated her. After telling her son that she had received the grant, he said that he was the one to nominated her with the help of his own teacher that showed him the program. Powers stated, “I am very proud of my son, it was very sweet.”
