On October 6th, Marcus Hamilton and DIGM hosted the second DIGM college fair visit with over 60 colleges and multiple breakout rooms with different career paths in arts and entertainment, business, government, healthcare, information technology, and trades. Limestone is new to attending the fair this year joining Peoria school districts.

The breakout rooms featured a number of guest speakers such as rappers, comedians, and many others who gave their perspectives on their careers, answered questions for students, and had some small activities such as improv.  Limestone counselor Billy Weaks said, “It gave students a lot of ideas of things that they could do, and gave them  the opportunity to talk to schools as well as individuals in the professions and career fields they want to go into.”

The career fair is about providing knowledge and opportunities to junior and senior students who want to pursue non-traditional careers and showing them that it is possible. This is just the second DGIM career fair with plans for more.

Limestone is focused on the future of its students and provides career opportunities with programs like  Xello.  Weaks’s advice to students is, “Just keep gathering information, ask teachers in the classes you’re interested in.  Get information and find what you like and don’t like.”   Students with questions regarding future planning should see their counselor for more information.
