The 52nd Annual Senior Citizen Holiday Luncheon at Limestone was held on Thursday, November 20th. Every year around Thanksgiving, students and staff from Limestone put on this event to bring our community together for the holidays.
The luncheon included a free meal and performances from several of our student organizations. This year’s menu consisted of turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, stuffing, green beans, pumpkin bars, and, of course, coffee. A definite favorite among this year’s seniors was the pumpkin bars, which were made by Limestone students enrolled in cooking and baking classes.
Alongside the delicious food, many LCHS performing arts programs put on a show for the guests. The entertainment for this year included performances from the symphonic band, chamber singers, fall play cast, Madrigal brass, speech team, and Madrigal singers. These performances offer a sample of Limestone’s diverse performance arts program for our community to enjoy. One senior commented, “I loved the show. The Madrigals singers were my favorite part.”
The food and the performances wouldn’t be possible without the help of LCHS’ dedicated students and staff. This year, over 100 students volunteered to help out in the cafeteria. The Student Council, Key Club, and Life Skills class are just a few of the student organizations that contributed to the event’s success. These students helped with every aspect of the luncheon, from serving food to washing dishes in the cafeteria.
More important than any meal, the best part of the luncheon is seeing the community come together and enjoy the afternoon. One attendee commented, “I like to see my friends. I have some friends from my yoga class, and people I don’t see much, and it’s nice to see everybody and say, ‘Hi.'”
Over 290 seniors reserved a seat at this year’s luncheon, many of whom are Limestone alumni or knew a current student.
