LCHS students gaming on their Chromebooks during class time has become problematic.
For the past few years at Limestone, many students have been playing games on their Chromebooks during class instead of listening to instruction or participating in the lesson. To prevent it from happening in the future, Jonathan Frederick, Limestone’s technology coordinator, has created new rules to put an end to this problem.
On September 3, Frederick sent an email to all students regarding the influx of unblocked game searching and usage. In it, he stated, “that is a breach of our acceptable use policy and I am emailed EVERY time someone accesses such a website.” As he stated, every time a student searches “unblocked games,” it sends him an email, alerting him.
Frederick has decided to take action and issue consequences for students who search for “unblocked games.” Students will be suspended from their Chromebook access for a week on the first offense.
This policy has decreased the number of kids searching for unblocked games, but it is unclear by exactly how much. The only time these games are allowed is if they do not bypass the security system.
Frederick also points out that students are not allowed to sticker their Chromebooks. Stickers leave a residue and are impossible to clean off. If a student transfers or needs a Chromebook repaired, the student will be charged a fine for how long it takes to clean off the glue from the stickers.
