Students returned to LCHS this fall to find newly installed air conditioning in the auxiliary gym.
Completed over summer break, the air conditioning installation process took about 8-9 months and was completed over the summer break. The AC in the auxiliary gymnasium was not installed with the rest of the school due to the high costs. It became a separate building project.
According to Keith Brown, LCHS Superintendent, “Limestone added air conditioning to benefit not only the students but the staff and the efficiency of our school.”
The feedback that Brown has received has been all positive. Students, parents, and staff are pleased with the new addition, which positively impacts students, athletes, and staff.
Coaches were also excited about the installation. Assistant volleyball Coach Jennifer Sergent explained, “When I found out the aux gym was receiving AC, I was excited for all the students who take PE, the teachers who use the aux gym as their classroom, and the athletes who use the gym for practices.”
Students are also appreciative of the AC. Junior McKinley Allison, a unified PE student, shared, “The AC is very nice and makes PE more comfortable.”
The heat can take a toll on the body, and more energy is exerted, meaning tiredness comes much quicker. Students and athletes can now focus on class activities, games, and practices without dwelling on the heat.
Limestone classrooms were air-conditioned beginning in the fall of 2023.
