While people watch their favorite teams play in NCAA March Madness, students of Limestone participated in March Attendance Madness.
During the challenge, classrooms went head-to-head competing for the best 1st hour attendance. The tournament began on Monday, March 10th, and continued for two weeks.
The idea of the attendance challenge came from attendance issues during the ’23-’24 school year. Principal Erin Veitti said, “We are trying to improve student chronic absentisim from 43% to 20% by the end of next school year.” Veitti also shared, “We hope to continue and try out different incentives that would overall improve our attendance.”
The 2025 winner of the March Madness Attendance Tournament was Mrs. Amanda Minter’s MPS class. Minter’s class won a donut and juice party. With that, they also won a traveling trophy, and Minter won a $25 gift card. Mr. Josh Ebbert’s class earned second place and won a donut and juice party. In third place, Mr. James Welton’s class also won a donut and juice party. An honorable mention goes to Mr. Derek Renz’s class with bragging rights.
Throughout the tournament, different classes were still able to win prizes which included cookies, pencils, or candy. Even if students did not earn a prize as a class, they still had the opportunity to attend a perfect attendance party. Students who missed two class periods or less over the two week competition received an invitation of a March Madness party which was held during Rocket Academy on Wednesday, March 26th.
Almost 400 students earned invitations to the party which included popcorn, soda, candy, and bingo.
