On Wednesday, March 19, Limestone went into a shelter in place due to a tornado warning in Peoria County just after student dismissal at 2:48 pm.
Cell phones across the building received a tornado warning alert from the National Weather Service. Just after the alert went out, an announcement was made over the intercom to initiate tornado protocols. Students were ushered into inner hallways and away from windows. The buses, which were loading in the circle drive were unloaded, and students were brought back inside for safety.
Principal Erin Vietti said, “All the students were calm and cooperative.”
After the tornado warning was lifted, the students still had to stay in the school due to the potential of more storms coming. Once the school had the all clear, students were released around 3:45 pm.
Local media outlet WMBD initially reported that tornadoes locally touched down in Pekin, Marquette Heights, and Hanna City during the storm.
