In the last two years, Limestone has offered a swim team to the school. Last year, there was no interest, but this year four students joined.
Limestone last had a swim team in 2002. Interest over the years declined and budget cuts were made which ended the program.
In the past year, students from Limestone began expressing a renewed interest in the swim team. Along with students showing interest, parents also started showing interest in a swim team. Limestone decided to co-op with Pekin and Tremont High Schools to create a swim co-op. Although no girls are on this year’s team, it is still offered to any Limestone girl who wants to be on the swim team.
Limestone swimmer Luke Stout has competed in swimming for nine years, but this is his first year competing at the high school level. Stout competes in the 200m breaststroke. Stout said, “All the guys are fun to be around, and I’m having a lot of fun making new friends and getting to know more people from different schools.”
Swimmers from Limestone include Luke Stout, Adam Miller, Ben Subbert, and Jack Manley. The swimmers’ home matches are at Pekin High School’s pool.
JV swimmers practice every day after school from 3:15 to 5:30. Varsity practices from 6:00 to 7:15 in the morning every day.
Luke stout said people to should join because, “It’s really fun, and you get to know a lot more people, not only from LCHS but the other schools that co-op like Pekin and Tremont.”
The season started for swimming at the end of November to the middle of February.
