Every year when Halloween rolls around, people everywhere get excited to go to haunted houses. One of the popular haunted houses around Peoria is Chillicothe’s Spider Hill at Three Sisters Park. This attraction features a haunted house called Massacre Mansion and Trail of Terror. We check out both of them and are here with a review!
Massacre Mansion
Grant: 6/10 I really like this haunted house. First the line, the line wasn’t bad for a haunted house. Don’t get me wrong, it was long, but it went by fast. We were in line for about 50-55 minutes and then actually in the mansion for about 15 minutes with a bit of a rush in the house. When we got into the house it was dark. I don’t want to spoil the scares, but if going in a group of three I don’t recommend being in the back based on personal experience. You get followed and scared the most in the back. The reason why I said 6/10 is because although I got scared, the costumes were not scary at all. I would describe the costumes as more advanced Spirit Halloween costumes. The actors were good, but the only time they would scare you would be when they jumped out at you. One thing I didn’t like about the house was the strobe lights. I would not recommend this if you were epileptic. The lights would flash so much that Ethan and I could not see.
Ethan: 8/10 I loved everything about the haunted house but the line waits were awful the lines were at least 40 minutes to an hour. When I was first in line I felt like I wasn’t scared as much as I thought I would be. When we were in line the worker asked who the most scared was, and we said my girlfriend. She was in the middle and the worker said the other workers would scare her mostly, but we quickly learned that Grant was the most scared. After everything we all had a great time, and I recommend going there.
Trail of Terror
Grant: 8/10 I liked the trail. It is made up of an outdoor trail and also many small shipping containers along the path that each have a theme. Some of the themes included an insane asylum and a barn. I would say that the container I got most scared by was in the barn. When you first walk in a loud air horn-type of sound blares in your ear. We walked into thick fog and darkness, then, all of a sudden, some creature screamed in our faces. It was scary but fun. However, I recommend not catching up to a group before yours because that can ruin scares. Overall it was a very fun and scary experience. I liked it.
Ethan: 9/10 The trails were the better part of the experience. As we were waiting in line for 30 minutes the actors would try to scare us, but also talk to us at the same time. When we were walking the trail, the experience was better as I did not know where the characters were unlike in the haunted house where we were too close to the group ahead of us. On the trail, the actors could be in the woods behind us or even above us in some parts. The scariest part was the tiny barn when we went into the tunnel the actors shot air into our ears and had air horns to scare us. When we walked into the barn it was completely dark. We could not see an inch in front of us. Overall the trail was my favorite part of my experience.
