Ah yes…Spooky season. The best time of the year and certainly the best holiday as well. Cooler temperatures, the beautiful scenery when the leaves die off and fall from the trees, and the spooky Halloween decorations are brought out and displayed in many people’s front yards and homes. It can’t get any better than that. But you could always make it a little better with a nice and fun book. Speaking of nice books here’s a great title just in time for Halloween.
The novel portrays the happily married couple, Sally and Jack Skellington as their lives are momentarily turned upside down. Sally finds herself cast into the spotlight and is tasked with all sorts of queenly duties as the new Queen of Halloween town, but Sally can’t help but wonder if all she’s done is trade her captivity under Dr. Finkelstein for a different ‘cage’. When Sally and Zero accidentally uncover a long-hidden doorway to an ancient realm called Dream Town in the forest Hinterlands, she’ll unknowingly set into motion a chain of sinister events that put her future as Pumpkin Queen, and the future of Halloween Town itself, into jeopardy. With Jack and the rest of the holiday world in peril, Sally goes on a quest to the other holidays (including the ones unexplored) as the Pumpkin Queen uncovering secrets and figuring out a way to save the world and combat the new discoveries involving her past life.
If you’re a fan of anything by Tim Burton, like his films, you’ll definitely enjoy this book. It’s very spooky but memorable at the same time.
In my opinion, the book felt like an accurate continuation of the original movie. Even though it wasn’t written by the same person, all the characters felt exactly the same. It might not be that unexpected considering she’s the main character, but my favorite part of the book was Sally herself. Her backstory is very rich, and because of that, it helps further expand the world in the story.
