LCHS band booster, Stephen Cordes was honored at the homecoming game for his service to the band program with a plaque that will hang in the band room for years to come.
Cordes’ time at Limestone began in 2007 when his daughter, Kara(Class of ’11), was a freshman. His sons Timothy (Class of ’14), and Jonathan (Class of ’18) also played in the band.
Over the years, Cordes has served the program in many roles. He is a member of the band boosters, helps load and design props, and runs the field competition. Codes has also served as president of the band boosters.
Superintendent Dr. Allan Gresham explained the honor, ”It was a push by previous band director Andy Empey and current band director Justin Bainter to do something to help recognize and to thank and publicize the contributions Mr. Cordes has given to the band.”
Band director Justin Bainter said, “Mr.Cordes brings a very calm leadership quality to the parent side of the program. He could never leave because he is fantastic.”
When asked about his recognition, Cordes shared, “I was humbled. There are so many people that do so much for the organization. They put so much into it, and I represent them.”
Cordes, himself, began playing the flute sometime around fifth grade at Low-Point Washburn. He continues to play in his church ensemble and from time-to-time with the LCHS pep band.
He plans to continue serving with the band boosters.
