Commercial Arts students in Lisa Bentley’s class designed and produced their own stickers for a recent project.
Students drew the designs out first then took a picture of the design and uploaded them into Adobe Illustrator. Once they were finished, they ran it through a software called Cricut to print and cut everything.
This was the first year of the project. The purpose of the assignment was to help students learn to design with a purpose and to learn that they can design anything that can be mass-produced and sold. Bentley said, “Stickers are very popular right now. People use them for a lot of things, for example,, water bottles, Chromebooks, etc.”
The process was challenging, but the designs and end result turned out well. Bentley said, “I hope the students are proud of what they’re doing and hope they realize what they’re designing could be sold someday.”
Senior Hailee Mayle said, “The sticker assignment was a great oppurtunity for me as an artist. I got to learn computer programming I never thought I’d be able to experience. The process was long and difficult, but it was completely worth it in the end. It’s something I will take with me as a future artist. ”
