On September 8th Rockets Football earned its first win since October 2021 when they suited up against the East Peoria Raiders and won.
At halftime, the Rockets were down 7-0. The Rockets turned it up in the 3rd quarter when junior wide receiver Kamar Sanders caught a touchdown pass from senior quarterback Caleb Bieneman. The Rocket Rowdies erupted. The Rockets scored again and ended the game 13-7 winning their first game since 2021. Sanders said, “A lot of these guys haven’t won in a long time, especially the Seniors. I’m glad I could be a part of it.”
When the game ended Limestone students rushed to the field congratulating the football team. “Everybody was running up to me yelling and cheering and smacking my helmet. You could tell that us winning got the community involved,” said defensive end senior Henry Pardieck.
Pardieck continued, “The locker room was different; it was a whole different vibe,”
After months of hard work as a team, head coach Jeff Schmider agreed with Pardieck and described the locker room atmosphere as, “A lot of smiles from the players. It was a continuation of what took place on the field with the students and cheerleaders storming the field.”
The Rockets face the Little Giant of Canton for their final game on Friday and are hoping to bring home another win.
