Basic Training with Greg Baughman

Over the summer, Senior Greg Baughman spent his time in basic training.

Over the course of seventy-seven days, Baughman learned military courtesy and conduct, marching movement, and how to eat and change quickly. He learned exercises to maintain his physical fitness, how to properly use weapons, and the importance of teamwork.

Baughman plans to continue his military career after high school with hopes of becoming a sergeant one day. When asked why he joined the military Baughman said, “I have wanted to serve my country since I was 6. I’ve always admired the military. I had family in the military. I wanted to risk my life to protect the country I love to protect the people I love to protect the American dream. I’m willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom.”

Baughman’s favorite part of basic training was “..shooting the M4, ruck marches, and just learning to become a soldier. I loved meeting the people there, learning their stories, and becoming family with them.”
